Dr. Nicole Elsen has over 15 years of experience in forensic psychology, earning her license as a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Minnesota in 2013.  She earned her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology in 2009.  Doctorate training included practicum and pre-doctoral internship experience working with individuals who resided in a forensic setting with severe and persistent mental illness.  Dr. Elsen continues to work in the field of forensic psychology with an emphasis in the administration and interpretation of psychological instruments, as well as the completion of written psychological assessments.  Specifically, Dr. Elsen’s professional experiences have included the assessment and diagnosis of individuals who have engaged in sexually harmful behavior. 

 

Throughout her professional experience, Dr. Elsen has gained significant knowledge in providing comprehensive psychological and assessment services to clients, mainly focused on the assessment of personality characteristics, sexual arousal/interest patterns, and identifying cognitive deficits.  Additionally, this has included providing written reports to the court as well as providing court testimony regarding clients' assessment results and treatment progress. Furthermore, Dr. Elsen has also had the opportunity to provide consultation and direct supervision to mental health professionals, pre-doctoral interns, and psychologists in discussing diagnoses, interpretation of testing instruments, and treatment interventions.  Last, Dr. Elsen has had the opportunity to participate in and facilitate training related to the utilization of research-based assessment measures and programming in a manner consistent with standards of care which includes presentations at state and national conferences.

 

Dr. Elsen joined Vantage Psychological Consultants in 2020 as a consultant to Dr. Rachel Hulkonen, assisting with evaluations related to civil commitment (i.e., Mentally Ill, Chemically Dependent, Developmentally Delayed, Jarvis, Mentally Ill and Dangerous), in addition to Rule 20.01/20.02 and Rule 20.04 evaluations.
